I’ve been using the carbon outfitting in my boats for currently 4 months, I originally put one in my kayak for racing at the extreme whitewater kayak world championships. We first chatted some time ago about the concept of making the hull of plastic kayaks stiffer all the while reducing the weight. For anyone who has paddled any carbon boats you will know and understand the vast difference in materials. Carbon fibre is a lightweight, strong and stiff material that gives incredible feedback and feel to a paddler. By designing an outfitting from carbon fibre we’ve allowed the hull to mimic similar characteristics of a carbon kayak.

If I’m completely honest having never paddled a boat with a carbon outfitting I was sceptical of the difference it would make. But, after my initial experience I was blown away! I

saved roughly 1.5kg in my Pyranha Reactr allowing me to float higher on the surface of the water, while the energy transfer from my body movement into the kayak was instant. My senses were heightened and I was able to feel every small bump and wave from wind chop and tidal flow current changes.

From a whitewater perspective, this paddling experience is game changing, I now get instant feedback and satisfaction from moves when running rapids with my boat control levelled up. I’ve run waterfalls, slides and hit many rocks both on purpose and accidentally to test the strength and it’s still as fabulous as the day it was fitted!
